Bimba y Lola

In my seminar today I was so inspired by a brand I had never heard of before, Spanish-based, international, women's apparel brand, Bimba y Lola. Because we were to produce a photoshoot for our task the following week, the lecturers showed us some inspiration of fashion photographs and this brand really stood out for me in particular. What I absolutely loved the most was their styling and choice of props and materials. Their ideas are definitely some I haven't seen done before. They are so creative and imaginative and in a way quite weird but clever.
In this particular photoshoot for FW2018/19 I love the use of angles as it keeps the focus interesting and definitely tells a story within the images. The use of cropping also intrigues me as this again gives hidden meaning to the image and creates questions such as 'why is this image cropped?', 'what meaning does this have?', 'does it even have a meaning?', 'was it intentional or unintentional?'.
The scrunched up pieces of vibrantly-coloured netting placed in front of the face I think is an interesting concept and it hides all evidence of identity. This is so attention is driven away from the face and more focused on the bags. It could also be expressing that the brand is androgynous as none of the photograph scream male or female and with no sign of a face to indicate this could mean it has a whole deeper meaning.

I like the use of negative space as well as I feel this a very successful way to guide the viewers attention, because if it is too busy in the background it is easy to get distracted from the subject. They stylists have used this space creatively as the photograph in the middle has the model positioned to look as if they are flying, giving it that futuristic feel.
As a whole, after discovering this brand I am left with so many inspired ideas for styling for my upcoming projects as I feel there are some really successful, strong images and a lot of creativity in Bimba y Lola's advertising.
